Share back my little Mamey forest, which is made up of a random selection of trees that I collected in my garden
0:08
It's a little bunch of seedlings and a pot of cheese, but that's how you start a powerful forest
0:14
But anyway, it's a bit of fun. I'm not actually sure what is all in here
0:18
It looks like a few hawthorn and ash and some sort of dwarf rows
0:22
So a strange mix, but it'll be interesting to see how they all grow together, as you all seem to be grown at different rates
0:29
You can also see here in June that there is a lot of soil around the base of the pot
0:33
That is because all the roots are coming out the bottom and starting to grab the soil that this pot is sat on
0:37
I've never actually repot this forest, which is pretty crazy considering the size and the number of trees in there
0:42
But it's been in here since 2019. I've just been pruning back any roots that have been poking out the bottom
0:48
So who knows what's actually going on inside the pot. All I know it is plastic pots like this usually don't last that long out in the elements
0:54
It looks okay in August. It does tend to dry out pretty fast since it's so small
0:59
which is why some of the leaves look a little crispy. But I would say it's doing pretty well considering
1:06
Also that probably explains why the taller ash at the back has lost all its leaves in September
1:19
In October I think it a start to shut down for winter and dropped all the sleeves naturally I guess there isn any glorious display this year
1:29
In November it's definitely dormant but the pot is finally mossed up. Looks very nice
1:33
but there's not much development from the trees they are still very much a bunch of tiny twigs in a pot
1:43
Here we are in February or normally I would prune everything back but there wasn't much growth last year
1:48
well certainly nothing that needs prune back here so I'm just going to leave it and all that moss has disappeared
1:53
so I guess the birds are stolen it but I'm sure it'll grow back
1:56
in March there's not much happening but the buds are starting to show
2:04
if I bring you in closer and put my hand behind it you might be able to see that some of the buds are
2:09
starting to swell and here we are now where it's slowly starting to wake up
2:26
hopefully it has a good growing season this year thanks for watching see you next time
